Y’all your oral health is important.

And I’m not just talking bad breath.

Although no one likes bad breath. Oral health goes so much deeper than bad breath and even cavities.

Something that I’m continually reminded of in my own health journey..is how important dental health is to our overall health.

It effects every other area of your body.

A root canal or cavity on a certain meridian can make that organ start to malfunction.

Toothpaste with trace minerals

It effects whole-body health

I found in my own journey that a titanium implant can even short-out a meridian. I had a titanium implant put on the meridian connected to my stomach and I had serious stomach issues almost right away as soon as it was put in. But then they instantly started improving once the implant was removed.

It also goes the other way where if you have poor oral health and lots of cavities, it is a sign of poor health in the rest of the body. It’s a big indication of the quality of your diet. It is a sign of mouth breathing (instead of the biologically correct nose breathing).

That was a big part of Weston A. Price’s research as he went around to ancestral tribes to study what they were eating (him being a dentist and all). He found that tribes that ate ancestral animal-based foods had strong, white, straight teeth. He found that tooth health was a big indication of the health of the body, and vice versa.

As the ancestral peoples started eating more and more modern foods they became more unhealthy in both their teeth and whole body. This all ties in to why we are so unhealthy in our current time.

The main cause of tooth decay came down to these food results:

  • Too much-processed sugar
  • High phytic-acid rich foods
  • Lack of fat-soluble vitamins
  • Lack of minerals in the diet

That last reason is one we are dealing with in this post today by getting some good minerals in the toothpaste we use.

Anyway, enough with my blabbering. I could talk about that all day.

But since we know now that dental health is extremely important, what toothpaste is a good option to use?

We know that fluoride is NOT the way to go. That can cause more issues than it could fix.

Hydroxyapatite toothpaste is a really good option especially if you are dealing with super chronic cavities and have been recommended to use fluoride. I get THIS ONE from Risewell sometimes (code WILSON10 for a discount).

But sometimes I just like making my own. It’s easy to whip up a batch and I love knowing that it contains trace minerals, which are so important for the strength and health of your teeth.

Toothpaste with trace minerals

  • 5 tbsp coconut oil
  • 2 tbsp baking soda
  • 2 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 20 to 30 drops trace minerals
  • 20 to 30 drops peppermint essential oil
  • Filtered water – to desired consistency

Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir thoroughly with a wooden spoon (bentonite clay should not come in contact with metal).

Store in a small glass jar with a plastic lid.

Use as you would regular toothpaste.

But remember, this is to be used in conjunction with a mineral rich diet. Remineralization is not a process that happens only in the mouth, so simply using a toothpaste with a higher amount of minerals will probably not be enough to completely heal the teeth. When I’m working on remineralizing my teeth I make sure I’m also taking minerals internally, eating ancestral foods, reducing mineral binders like grains (that contain phyctic acid), and eating plenty of grassfed butter and lard/tallow.

Frequently asked dental questions

  • What toothbrushes do you use? Luke and I use THESE ONES, and the children use THESE ONES.
  • Do you have anywhere you share your whole dental implant story? Yes! I just shared three reel videos on Instagram sharing the story. If you go to the reels tab on my Instagram they are all pinned to the top of the page so you can find easily.
  • What dentist do you recommend? I highly recommend seeing a holistic dentist. I personally will never go back to a conventional one, they have screwed up my teeth too many times. Ask The Dentist on Instagram has a dentist registry that you can search for ones closest to your area. Then I’d call the ones that come up and ask them a few questions making sure they are truly holistic.
  • What supplements do you recommend for dental health? These are all ones I’ve taken for awhile and were also approved by my holistic dentist and naturopath. I take cold pressed cod liver oil, butter oil, vitamin K, and humic/fulvic minerals all specifically for my teeth (although they help with a lot of other things too!) Use code WILSONHOMESTEAD for a discount on any of those.
