Kids and healthy teeth. A few of the ways I take care of my kiddos teeth naturally to prevent de-mineralization or cavities.

My kids had their first dentist appointment recently. It felt like such a big milestone for them and for me as a parent. I still feel as though things like remembering to schedule a dentist appointment are “adult things” and I’m slowly growing up.
But the appointment couldn’t have gone better!
They all three let her clean their teeth (even 2 year old Vivian).
None of them had any cavities or de-mineralization, not even the hint of a cavity.
She was very happy with what things I’ve been doing with them, so I wanted to share here what we do to keep our kiddos teeth healthy. Because believe me, it’s more than just buying any old toothpaste at the grocery store and remembering to brush their teeth once a day.

Hydroxyapatite toothpaste
Hydroxyapatite is such an amazing tool for preventing cavities and re-mineralizing the teeth without involving harmful substances like fluoride.
It is a naturally occurring mineral that makes up 97% of our tooth enamel. While Hydroxyapatite is less known in the US, it has been the gold standard for naturally, effective oral care in Japan for over 40 years.
As the main component of tooth enamel, Hydroxyapatite chemically binds to teeth and acts as a protective shield. Hydroxyapatite acts as a filler capable of repairing small holes and depressions on the enamel surface, while also naturally whitening.
Because Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral in our teeth and bones, it’s completely harmless if accidentally ingested. And since the rest of our ingredients are also all safe, you have nothing to worry about when using our natural fluoride-free toothpaste, morning, noon, or night.

This is where we buy the kids hydroxyapatite toothpaste: RISEWELL TOOTHPASTE. You can use the code WILSON10 to save.
Tooth putty (if needed)
Our kiddos have never had cavities, but I have this on hand incase I ever notice some de-mineralization going on or the dentist points out something to be concerned about. This also had hydroxyapatite as well as a bunch of other healing and mineralizing ingredients.

Here are some examples of before and afters using this tooth putty:
Flossing
I get it. Flossing is hard with kids. It can be hard enough to get a two year old to let you brush their teeth every day, but this is important. Especially my two girls have molars that are pretty close together so food can get stuck pretty easy.
I try to get their teeth flossed first to loosen up any food stuck in between and then we brush.
Myo-munchies
Ok, this may be a weird one. This one is about more than just keeping their teeth clean, it assists in developing their jaw structure, airway, it can help with myofunctional work, and as an added bonus it cleans their teeth a bit. Having a proper jaw structure, teeth placement, jaw strength, tongue placement, all play a big role in the health of your teeth and whole body.

Diet matters!
You’d be shocked at how much a good diet can affect the teeth.
You want little to no processed sugars or conventional grains in the diet, these are really going to wreak havoc on the teeth and the gut (which ties into tooth health).
An ancestral traditional diet is best.
- lacto-fermented foods
- grassfed / pastured meat – beef, lamb, pork, poultry
- raw milk
- eggs
- butter
- lard / tallow / ghee
- yogurt
- kefir
- cheese
- organ meats
- bone broth
- bee pollen
- cod liver oil (which I’ll go over more later)
- fruits, etc.
You want nutrient dense things like these to be the bulk of their diet. Then we will add in cooked vegetables and a small amount of things like sourdough, fermented rice and potatoes.
If you haven’t started from infancy with this diet it will be a hard change, but so worth it. Our kids have eaten like this from the time they had their first foods so they love it!
Cod liver oil daily
Cod liver oil is full of essential vitamins, minerals and fatty acids that are crucial to your teeth and over all health. This is one of my non-negotiables when it comes to supplements. I hesitate to even call it a supplement because this is just a whole food.
Cod liver oil nutrients affect both the saliva that can re-mineralize teeth and the living bone tissues under the enamel.
This is something my kiddos have all taken their whole lives as soon as they went on solid foods around 6 months.
I recommend the Rosita cod liver oil liquid or the Green pastures liquid or gel. You can use the code WILSONHOMESTEAD for anything on that site for 10% off.
And beannachdan (blessings)!

First I must say, your children are so adorable and healthy looking. The look like they know how to get dirty. I see that as a very good thing.
I have three great grands I am going to get some of the toothpaste for them. Oldest just turned 7.
Do you also use the toothpaste?
Thank you
Have an amazing day
