Delicious Yolky Cheese Sauce. My absolute favorite cheesy yolky topping sauce. Top burgers, eggs, quiche, and so much more!

My husband, Luke, started making this sauce a couple years ago and it is a huge hit every single time. He likes to experiment a lot in the kitchen. I’m a lot more “stick to what you know”, and Luke likes to try all the new things.

Sometimes this brings out some pretty wacky dishes, but more often than not he creates something quite delicious!

This is one of those creations that has stuck around because we all love it so much.

The perfect cheesy sauce for topping whatever savory dish sounds good to you.

I love putting it on top of quiche, burgers, crispy potatoes, or even just changing up some leftovers.

Usually he will make this with a quiche, because this uses yolks only. So he’ll make the quiche with the whites and this sauce with the yolks and then pour this sauce on top of the casserole dish of quiche.

Perfection.

Delicious Yolky Cheese Sauce

  • 3 egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (we really love how this medium cheddar cheese tastes in it)

First separate the egg yolks from the whites.

Scoop out the butter and put it in a little pot. Put the pot on a low burner and let the butter melt.

Get your cheese out and using the smaller size on your grater, shred it all up. I don’t really measure any of this, I just do about a cup or so.

Once the butter is melted you can start putting the grated cheese in.

Sprinkle all the cheese in the pot and start stirring it. I use a fork for this so I can kinda whisk it around better. But keep it moving and don’t let it burn.

Once the cheese is melted it’ll look very smooth and you know its ready for the next step.

Remove it from the heat for this next part, you don’t want to cook the egg yolks at all. They are more nutritious raw. You are going to pour the egg yolks in on top now, and continue stirring.

Whisk it up with your fork until it’s all combined and smooth. It’ll be this creamy thick sauce and it’ll thicken up even more as it cools a little bit.

Pour it over top any food you want to add it to, and enjoy!

This is such a simple recipe. I can’t believe I haven’t seen this made more often, it’s so easy and so delicious! I hope that you enjoy it as much as we do!
