Jump to RecipeI’m just slightly obsessed with this hair mist.
Spray. Mist. Whatever. It is THE bomb.
I’ve been growing my hair out since Sofia was born, about 3 1/2 years now, with only a few trims here and there. And it is now pretty much reaching my bottom. Like its almost ridiculously long. I sit on it…it falls in the toilet….it gets tangled around my arms at night…ya know, long hair problems.
I attribute my long, thick, fast-growing hair in part to my homemade wash routine, as well as to this DIY hair spray.
Believe me when I tell you that I have a hard time limiting myself to only using this once or twice a day.
I’d be misting it all over everyone and everything all the time if people wouldn’t get so annoyed by randomly being sprayed. So strange.
This is a recipe that is mostly intended for people with naturally oily hair, like me. Five years ago when I was transitioning over from washing my hair daily to only every other week I had the greasiest hair! It was adjusting to not having the natural oils stripped from it every single day so it had to learn to not produce SO MUCH oil. It was a hard transition! This spray would be soooo handy during something like that! I only wish I knew about it back then!

About the ingredients
Witch Hazel
Witch hazel has so many benefit for hair! Especially if you are someone who has naturally more oily hair, it can reduce the greasiness. So if you have oily hair I’d use this a lot more than if you have naturally dry hair.
It also calms inflammation. Which is always a good thing. We don’t want inflammation anywhere in the body. It reduces flaking on your scalp, helps keep your hair and scalp cleaner, it can make frizzy hair softer and add volume to it, and it can help promote growth.
Essential Oils
All the essential oils in this recipe help promote hair growth. Essential oils are natural and effective, helping to stimulate your hair follicles while making your hair healthy, shiny and strong. EOs can be a powerful tool in keeping your hair healthy and growing fast, and you only have to use a tiny bit!
Lavender essential oil can speed up hair growth. It has properties that can generate the growth of cells and reduce stress. It is anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory so it works as a natural oil in your hair.
Rosemary is the go-to EO for hair. If you want to improve both hair thickness and hair growth, rosemary oil is a great choice thanks to its ability to improve cellular generation.
Cedarwood essential oil helps promote hair growth and reduces hair loss by balancing the oil-producing glands in the scalp. It also has antifungal and antibacterial properties, which can treat different conditions that cause dandruff or hair loss.
Geranium can promote hair development by conditioning the scalp. This oil can manage dryness, excess oil, and the creation of sebum. To improve hair development, a healthy scalp is critical. Since geranium adjusts emissions around the hair follicles, it’s a really great addition to this hair spray.
Bergamot essential oil comes with loads of quality benefits that can directly or indirectly boost the health of our hair. This oil is one of the best natural stimulants you can ever use for your hair. It improves blood circulation throughout the scalp, which ensures the proper delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the hair follicles and the nearby cells. It also has an amazing soothing effect almost immediately. The oil produces two neurotransmitters (serotonin and dopamine), which calm down the nervous system and make the mind relaxed. This relaxes the scalp too and causes a high positive impact on the growth of our hair.
I hope this spray helps you have naturally thick, healthy and fast growing hair!
And blessings!

Hi, could you please explain how much you use at a given time? Do you only spray onto your scalp or also on the rest of your hair? I’ve been growing my hair (it’s to my hips now) and I’m eager to try this to encourage even better health in my hair. Any additional details would be appreciated. Thanks!

I do about 5 to 10 sprays, mostly concentrated near my scalp but I do some lower down on my hair too.

My twins are 16 years old and I am FINALLY seeing my hair return to its pre-pregnancy fullness and health thanks to this recipe! I’ve been using it for over 6 months now and have seen a huge improvement to the breakage at my temples and I have a ton of little baby hairs growing. Thank you so much for this awesome recipe!!!

Is okay to use tea tree oil instead of Cedarwood?
