My husband puts up with a lot of my weird ideas. Turmeric face masks, eating liver, using chicken feet to make stock, drinking kombucha, ordering chicks when I have no idea where I’ll put them, you name it.
The first time I made this face mask, I happened to still have it on when Luke got home from work. He walked in the door, took one look, and said “you look like an alien”.
Turmeric is a powerful spice with an impressive list of uses and benefits. It’s known for its antioxidant content and ability to work as an anti-inflammatory. This common culinary spice is prized in many cuisines around the world and with good reason. Here are just a few of it’s particular benefits:
- Protects against the breakdown of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid
- Helps to even skin tone
- Supports wound healing
- Soothes skin irritations
One of my favorite ways to use turmeric is in a face mask! Turmeric boasts skin superpowers that have been used for centuries for gorgeous, glowing skin. The combination of turmeric, honey and coconut oil is amazing for your skin! Raw honey contains enzymes that work as a skin clarifier, breaking the bonds of dead skin cells so they can easily be rinsed away. It’s also an emollient and humectant that possesses anti-aging properties.
Turmeric Face Mask Recipe:
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon raw honey
- 1 teaspoon of either coconut or almond oil
Instructions:
Remove all makeup and wash your face. Using your fingers or a makeup brush, massage into skin in small circles and let sit for 20 minutes. Rinse well with lukewarm water and pat dry with a paper towel. And enjoy your soft, glowing skin!
Will Turmeric Stain My Skin?
It can, but there’s an easy way to avoid it. For a long time turmeric has been used to dye silk and wool, so it’s no surprise that some cases it can temporarily stain skin. However, I’ve found that after applying and rinsing the mask, any remaining color will disappear when I apply a little olive, coconut or avocado oil and then wipe away the excess.
