Finding farmhouse style in thrift shops. What specific things do I always keep an eye out for when I’m in thrift shops?

One of the ways I like to un-wind a little is by walking around thrift or antique shops. Its relaxing for me.
I don’t always buy things, I just really enjoy looking at all the old things.
But I do have a little mental list that I keep, so when I do go in a shop I know what to keep an eye out for.
I love the farmhouse style, and I’m always changing around my decor arrangements, so new items coming in can be really nice to freshen up a space.
Sometimes I re-sell the pieces I don’t use anymore on Etsy. But it is just nice to have a small stash of items to go through when the urge to “freshen up” hits and you don’t have time to go to the thrift store.

Enamelware
Enamelware is farmhouse looking and it is also super tough for children using it. All the bowls and cups that the kids use are all enamelware. It’s a good thing too, because if they were ceramic they would have all been broken a dozen times over by toddlers learning to feed themselves.
Cute paintings / artwork
Small framed paintings or artwork are a great thing to keep an eye out for.
They can fit almost anywhere in your home and add some cute farmhouse charm.
Next to the bathroom mirror. Under the light switches in the bathroom. Add to an existing gallery wall. On the backsplash in the kitchen. Over the light switches in a bedroom.
Not to make it look cluttered, but a small amount makes it look just charming.
Furniture
It’s hard for me to find furniture that I like.
So I make sure to look through the furniture especially at antique stores to see what I can find. Even if I find something I already have I might want to replace the current piece. I’m terribly picky.
Ironstone
Ironstone pieces can go just anywhere and with just about anything.
They can fill in decor spaces and make it feel really cozy and farmhouse-like.
Crocks
I have so many of these. And most of them I actually am using for holding utensils or cleaning brushes in the kitchen. They aren’t even just for decor, they are so functional!
Plates
Functional and beautiful.
I like using pretty plates in our general dish rotation. If they aren’t too expensive then I let the kids use them too now that they’re getting just a little older and don’t throw dishes on the floor all the time. It’s so enjoyable to use beautiful plates instead of our old plain white ones.
I also like getting some extra to hang on the wall. That is a perfect way to add a farmhouse feel too, hanging antique plates on the wall.
And blessings.
