How To Can Pears

Here is a really easy recipe for canning your pears!  Pears happen to be Luke’s favorite canned fruit so I made a lot of it!   It’s always so fun to sit and cut up pears while you listen to your favorite podcast (currently Living Homegrown) or watching your favorite show (Call The Midwife).

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 2 to 3 pounds per quart
  • Sugar
  • Water

Wash your pears and drain. Cut into quarters or halves. Core and peel.  Make a light syrup using 2 1/4 cups sugar and 5 1/4 cups water. Keep the syrup hot. Pack pears into jars and ladle hot syrup over them, leaving ½ inch headspace. Remove air bubbles (I use a butter knife to run down the inside of the jar). Wipe rim so the lids can seal properly. Adjust two piece caps. Process pints 20 minutes, quarts 25 minutes, in a boiling water canner.

There is nothing quite like being able to sit back and admire all the things you’ve canned over the year.  Admiring the bounty that God has blessed us with!
