How To Make A Breve Coffee. My all time favorite! A super easy and fast way to make a delicious coffee in your espresso maker.

So one day Luke finds an espresso maker on marketplace.

I had been hoping and dreaming of the day we could afford an espresso maker for years!

He brings me his phone with the listing pulled up. A 2-in-1 espresso maker and drip coffee machine. It’s only $70 and originally $300?! I mean c’mon! You’re speaking my love language now babe!

So the next Sunday when we are in town for church, we go pick it up. I can hardly contain my excitement to bring it home and try it out.

I experimented with all kinds of ways of brewing, of steaming the milk. There were lattes, amaricanos, but my all time favorite coffee I actually made totally by mistake.

How To Make A Breve Coffee

The story of how I discovered this coffee

One day I was making a coffee. And suddenly from the other room where the kids had been playing noisily, it was deathly quiet. All you mamas out there know, that is a BAD sign!

So I ran!

Annnddd…the kids had been dunking their toys in the toilet.

Of course it was after one of the children (who shall remain nameless), had gone number one AND number two in the toilet. Y’all, at this point it doesn’t even surprise me anymore.

Here I am drying tears, wiping hands, scrubbing poopy water off the walls, when I suddenly realized my coffee was still in there brewing away. So I ran again. Back to the kitchen. Where I found the cup I brew espresso into, completely full and overflowing.

I turned the machine off, went back to cleaning up the children. But when I came back to my coffee, I decided, instead of making a new one I’d just add cream and maple syrup to it as is.

And that was how my all-time-favorite-coffee was invented. Because of a toilet emergency. Imagine that!

It was several weeks after that, someone finally told me that this kind of coffee is called a breve! Actually technically a breve is made with half and half, but close enough! 😉

It was so rich and delicious. I don’t even think I can do it justice here. So y’all are just going to have to make one and see for yourselves.

How To Make A Breve Coffee

Step one: Make sure your children aren’t playing in the bathroom.

Step two: Freshly grind your coffee beans. They just make a better end result if you use freshly ground. I like to do the double shot size espresso filter and enough fine grounds to fill that. Pack it down (but not too hard), and turn your machine on so it can heat up.

Step three: I have a little metal cup I brew into that is 12oz. I keep the machine brewing until it is all the way full. Some machines (especially nicer ones) will automatically turn off after brewing one or two shots, so you’ll have to keep starting it to brew that much.

You are supposed to get the cream (or milk for lattes) into the espresso shot right away. If you wait too long it will get bitter. So if your machine is taking a long time to brew 12oz (if it keeps stopping at two shots) you can put a little cream in the bottom of the cup so it gets into the coffee right away.

Step four: Pour it in your favorite mug. I use raw cream that we skim off the milk we get from our local farmer every week. I add a splash of that and a little maple syrup. Just add both of those to taste. I do just the tiniest splash of maple syrup for Luke and then a little more than that for myself. Perfection!

So you’re welcome. Now you don’t have to find out about this delicious beverage because of your children playing in poop. I’ve done the hard part for ya.

And blessings!
