Mother’s Day Gift Ideas For Homesteading Mamas. Some great gift ideas for any of the chicken-crazy tomato-growing moms in your life!

I’m going to make a shocking statement here, you guys.
You ready for it?
We don’t give gifts for mother’s day in our house. Usually we will call or write a note to each of our own moms, and Luke will write me the sweetest letters from him and the children (since they are too young to write themselves). But other than that, we don’t do much for mother’s day. But that being said, we aren’t big gift givers in general.
Now you may be asking, well why a gift idea list for mother’s day then, Megan?
The truth is, I still like getting gifts (because hello, who doesn’t??), and I know a lot of my sistas in motherhood out there do as well. So instead of spa days and jewelry, there needed to be a Mother’s Day gift list that was just for women like us. Women who daydream about chickens and canning supplies, instead of purses or shoes.
So if you are one of those mamas who wrangles both sheep and toddlers, or collects eggs with a baby on her hip, then this gift list is totally for you. So get our your pens husbands!
Mother’s Day Gift Ideas For Homesteading Mamas
Cast iron
Everyone needs cast iron pans in their farmhouse kitchen. Or any kind of kitchen for that matter.
They are so durable and super convenient once you get past the small learning curve of using them. I literally only use cast iron when it comes to especially pans. I’m a stickler for em.
Or how bout this gorgeous enamelware cast iron dutch oven in her favorite color?!
A kitchen aid mixer
A lot of breads, desserts, butter, mashed potatoes and such get mixed in this kitchen. Having a kitchen aid has been beyond helpful for saving my wrists from some early arthritis! This mixer gets used literally every day, if not several times a day. I would venture to say that if I had to make a list of my top 10 most essential kitchen items, this would be on that list.
Plus not only is it super functional, but it also looks nice on your countertop. Bonus!
A comfortable baby carrier
Babies are amazing y’all. They are like my favorite little things ever! But when you have a bunch of other children, a home to run, and a homestead to manage, you can’t just sit around cuddling the baby all day. As fabulous as that would be.
So my solution has always been to strap the baby right to my chest, so I can get all-day-long baby snuggles while I still get all my work done. Cause mamas, have you noticed how your babies just want to be with you all the time? It’s such a natural, instinctual thing to do.
I don’t collect that many things (besides canning jars), but baby carriers are a weakness of mine. Not a minimalist at all when it comes to the baby carriers. I probably have over 30 different carriers at this point. I’ve created an entire playlist on my YouTube channel showing how to use each one so you all can benefit from my obsession too.
Out of all the carriers I’ve used I’ve been able to pair it down for y’all to some of my favorites depending on the style you are looking for. My favorite wrap (this is actually my favorite carrier out of any type) is the Boba wrap. When it comes to soft structured carriers, I highly recommend the Ergobaby or for a more affordable carrier, the Moby move. If you are looking for a ring sling, I love the Nalakai ring sling.
Canning supplies
Canning season is feeling like it’s just around the corner, and if you have any homesteading mamas in your life that do canning they could probably use some of these supplies. I know that especially jars and lids are something that I’m always keeping an eye out for and thrilled when someone knows me well enough to get them for me as a gift! There is a HUGE array of helpful canning supplies, but here are a few of the basics:
- All American pressure canner (my dream canner)
- Presto pressure canner (a more affordable option, and the one I use myself)
- Ball blue book
- Set of canning tools
- Reusable canning lids
Getting one of these will really put the pep in her step as she stares at that 40 pounds of green beans she just picked up from a local farmer, while she dreams of snowy winter nights having green beans with dinner.
A good dehydrator
This is a good, basic, practical gift for a homesteader. During preserving season mine is out almost all the time for anything from plums to tomatoes. Lemme tell ya, the mama who gets this as a gift will instantly be going around her garden to see what is ready to dehydrate. And if there aren’t fruits and vegetables ripe yet then it’ll be home-dried herbs and spices galore.
A good dehydrator will last a homemaker for years and years. Years of delicious food preservation.
An egg incubator
Baby chicks are always good. Even if you already have 40 chickens and really don’t need any more. Chicks are still good. At least they’re really cute!
This is definitely not your typical mother’s day gift, but man, I would jump out of my socks for joy if I got one of these.
Me, dramatic? Yes, maybe.
But c’mon, how cool would it be to hatch your own baby chicks?!
I actually used to run a little business when I was around 14, hatching chicks and selling them. I had my own breeding flock of Marans and I was completely responsible for the breeding, collecting eggs, incubating, hatching, selling, and dealing with costumers. It was my first little venture out into the world of entrepreneurs. I have such fond memories of that experience, I’d love to get a small incubator so my own children can experience hatching chicks. It’s just another facet of life on the farm.
Plants or trees
Trees?
Really Megan?
That’s a little odd.
No, but really, hear me out.
Now that we are moving onto more acreage very very soon, I have been dreaming of all the things I want to do on our 10 acre piece of land. And one of those things is plant fruit trees. If you are someone who lives on enough land to have some trees, can you imagine how exciting it would be if someone bought you, say a plum tree? And you could plant it, care for it, and have your very OWN fruit coming from it in the future? It would be a gift of the future I guess, but such a good investment!
Or of course if you don’t want to go as extreme as buying a fruit tree for a mama in your life, you could still get her an herb or another plant she doesn’t have one of yet. Herbs are alwaayyss a good way to go.
An instant pot
Anyone besides me a procrastinator?
No? Well, now I’m embarrassed.
Me being somewhat of a wait-till-the-last-minute-to-get-meat-out-of-the-freezer kind of lady, is in love with my instant pot.
Well, not as much in love as with Luke, but you know…
Plus, it is the BEST thing for making homemade raw milk yogurt. Y’all. Ya gotta try it. And the best hard boiled eggs. And oatmeal.
So husbands, if you get this for your wife for mother’s day, it’s basically also a gift for yourselves.

Sometimes in motherhood you need a little encouragement. Well lets be honest, encouragement is appreciated and needed more than just sometimes.
